This is what I learnt from the conference:
· Research
o Look at lots of examples and use them as models for your film
o Think about conventions, audiences and institutions
· Planning
o Things that could go wrong
o Record all planning as evidence
o The journey of the project as a blog
· Evidence
o Storyboards
o Animatics
· Ideas
o Keep them simple
o Workable concept with REALISTIC plans
o Try a 25 word pitch for the whole film
· Feedback
o From peers and friends
o Keep a record of feedback
· Logistics
o People
o Props
o Places
o Costumes
o Get it done early,, there is always time to reshoot
o Rehearse before shooting to save time
· Equipment
o Start with the big picture and fine tune things much later
· Extra info
o Show titles throughout the film
o Heartbeat sound in a film creates a scary effect
o Walk normal speed when filming, this can always be speed up or down
o Check lighting (inside with windows)
o Don’t tell the whole story
o DO NOT ZOOM ON THE CAMERA!
Great advice, Holly. Thank you for sharing this with everyone.
